Enjoy!
While we want all our students to learn new skills in the classes they take here at
LVS, we also want you to enjoy yourself. We pride ourselves on being the online classes "where
learning is fun"! We take our students and our classes
seriously
but not ourselves. *S* We hope you'll do the same!

Software/Programs
Most of our classes teach a specific program such as HomeSite, FrontPage, PSP, MS
Office, etc. If you are taking one of these classes, be sure to install the software
before class begins unless you are using a demo version that is time limited. In that case
wait until class begins before installing the program.
Please note: Students must use legally obtained versions of any software taught at LVS.
The use of pirated software is not only immoral, it is illegal.
LVS has a good working relationship with the software companies that own the programs we
teach. Any student found to be using illegally obtained software or trading in warez,
cracks etc. will be expelled with no refund.
On the registration pages you will find links to the manufacturers who offer trial version downloads of their software.
On the you will find links to
distributors where LVS students can purchase software at academic rates which are usually
substantially lower than retail.

Prerequisites
Be sure you meet any prerequisites listed for the class. These are listed with the
course information as well as on the schedule. Prerequisites are set for our students'
benefit - we want you to be able to keep up with (and enjoy!) the class. Introductory
courses are for students with little or no knowledge of the subject. However, these
classes may require other skills such as HTML. Please be aware that all classes, with the
exception of Intro to Windows, require that you have a working knowledge of your computer
and Operating System.

Class Requirements
A typical class week includes the lesson to be read plus one or more assignments that
need to be completed. We also encourage all of our students to take part in class message
board discussions. This can all be very time-consuming. Many students wonder how many
classes they can take in one session. That depends on you and your lifestyle.
If you work at home or are retired, you probably have more time to spend on reading the
lessons and doing the assignments than someone who commutes to a full-time job or has
young children at home. If you are very self-motivated and organized, you can also
probably handle more classes. We have students who successfully take three classes in one
session and others who are more comfortable with only one or two. This decision is
entirely up to the individual student. If you are uncertain about how many classes you
should take, please feel free to .

Age Requirements
There is no age requirement to take LVS classes. However, the majority
of LVS students are adults and our classes are likely not suited to children under the
age of 13 unless that child is able to comprehend instructions better than their peers. All minor
children must have parental permission to take classes with us. Parents, please contact
to let us
know that you are signing a minor child up for classes. Any questions or concerns may also
be directed to the same email address.

Class "Attendance"
One of the best things about online classes is that you can access the classroom
whenever it is convenient for you. Our lessons are posted weekly and remain online
throughout the six-week course and for ten days following the posting of the last lesson.
The individual class message boards remain open also.
During the sessions, we have found that the more students participate on the class
message boards - asking or answering questions, providing information and posting their
assignments - the more they enjoy the class. Many of the classes also hold weekly mIRC
chat sessions. Attendance is not mandatory but many students find these informal sessions
very helpful. A is
available for our students.
We encourage students to use the ,
before classes begin, to introduce themselves, form study groups, ask questions or just
chat. This board is also monitored by LVS instructors in case students have any questions
about the class(es) they are taking.
